We recently sat down with Annie and Pablo to chat about their journey with Dan Perata Training (DPT), and what it’s been like raising—and training—their two dogs, Clifford and Jude. Clifford is a six-year-old Tibetan Mastiff with a big presence and even bigger feelings, while Jude, their seven-year-old Corgi, brings plenty of personality in a much smaller package.

Their story with DPT started thanks to a recommendation from Annie’s mom. At the time, they were feeling overwhelmed by Clifford’s reactivity and weren’t quite sure where to turn. A consultation with Natasha at DPT quickly convinced them they’d found the right team.

Although both Annie and Pablo had experience with dogs before, Clifford brought a whole new set of challenges they hadn’t faced before. “He had a lot of big reactions to the world around him,” Pablo shared. “We knew we needed help.”

With Dan’s guidance, they began focusing on the structure and consistency Clifford needed to feel safe. Meanwhile, Jude—independent and a little stubborn—benefited from fine-tuning his basic obedience skills.

One of the biggest game-changers, they said, was learning how to work through real-life scenarios using DPT’s training tools, like The Box. “It was incredible to see how much progress Clifford made when we could practice those everyday triggers—like doorbells or visitors—in a safe, controlled way,” Annie said.

Beyond the initial training camp, DPT’s continued support has helped them stay on track through refresher sessions and boarding programs. With busy schedules and now a little one in the house, Annie and Pablo have learned that dog training doesn’t stop after a few sessions—it’s an ongoing process.

“What we really love is that Dan isn’t just a trainer—he’s someone we can call anytime life throws a curveball,” Annie added. Whether it’s a baby, a move, or just a new challenge on a walk, knowing they have DPT in their corner brings peace of mind.

They both emphasized that consistency and commitment are key. “You have to be willing to show up—not just for the sessions, but for your dog,” Pablo said. “It’s work, but it’s so worth it.”

And while training has brought structure and calm to their home, the biggest reward has been the deeper connection they’ve built with Clifford and Jude. “We understand them better,” Annie said. “They trust us more. That changes everything.”

A Shout-Out to the Rescues

Annie and Pablo are also passionate about giving back. They regularly support rescue groups like Love and Second Chances and Rocket Dog Rescue, who work tirelessly to save animals and help them find loving homes. They also give major props to the Peninsula Humane Society for the incredible work they do in the community.
