A Journey to a Transformed Relationship with Leo: Dan Perata Training Experience

When Lauren first discovered Dan Perata Training through a Google search, she described it as “stumbling upon a hidden gem.” Though initially hesitant about the cost, she decided to take a leap of faith for her almost two-year-old dachshund–pit bull mix, Leo.

Before training, Leo’s daily walks were stressful. Leo was pulling on the leash, nose glued to the ground, and a 10-minute walk was turning into 30. At home, separation anxiety caused counter-surfing and chewed-up belongings. Despite his sweet nature, Leo’s behavior was becoming increasingly difficult to manage.

That’s when Lauren enrolled Leo in the four-week Board and Train program, attracted by its hybrid structure that allowed weekend reunions, a rare feature among other programs she researched. “If it had been one of those programs where you don’t see your dog for five weeks, I wouldn’t have signed up,” she said. “Being able to work with him on weekends made all the difference.”

The transformation, she explained, was both emotional and behavioral. Within a month, Leo went from being uninterested in play to seeking out affection, engaging with other dogs, and showing newfound joy. “He brings toys over, greets people, and plays with our older dog now. That’s even more rewarding than having perfect obedience.”

As a clinical trial manager at UCLA, Lauren appreciated the flexibility of Dan Perata’s hybrid format. The program’s structure allowed her to balance her demanding schedule while still being hands-on in Leo’s progress.

Looking ahead, she’s excited to explore weekend intensives and other specialized training options to keep building on Leo’s growth.

“I’m just so grateful,” Lauren said. “Dan’s program didn’t just change Leo — it changed how we live together. It gave me confidence, and it gave him calm.”
